My work predominantly deals with the body in a myriad of forms, the distorted, fragmented and camouflaged body. As an artist my work deals with the anomalies of identity, the changeable and performed nature of it. Having travelled and lived around the world, these bodies become my personal way of confronting issues of my own identity in changing environments and contexts. The camouflaged self universalises these interpretations and shows a body which not only represents the exterior and surface value of identity but also the inner journey which shifts and shapes itself during one’s journey. The process of collage is an important starting point for my work as it is a way of fusing elements to create new fragmented and hybrid selves.
I graduated from the University of Sydney (Australia) in 2009 with a first class honours degree in Bachelor of Visual Arts, where I specialised in techniques of printmaking. On finishing my studies I moved to Italy, Acqui Terme. At the same time I received a business grant from the Australian Arts Council (part of the Australian government) to help fund the establishment of a printmakers laboratory in Italy. This project in itself has kept me busy over the last year. Having my own space has caused me to experiment with less toxic printing and a range of new printing methods. An artist and a printer, I draw from photography (alternative and digital), etching, linocut, silkscreen, various methods of image transfer and collage.
